Five Days, Five Looks, Five Million Dollars
In an effort to let us commoners into Vogue’s inner sanctum, the magazine recently posted “Five Days, Five Looks, One Girl: Indre Rockefeller.” Not unlike our current month of style project, “Five Days, Five Outfits” documents Anna Wintour assistant Indre’s clothing choices for five days. That, however, is where the similarities end.
While we do thrifted Marc by Marc dresses paired with Old Navy cardigans, Rockefeller (and yes, we do mean that Rockefeller) is wearing this season’s Thakoon and Oscar De La Renta. Her outfit (at left), for example, comes complete with Dries Van Noten shorts for a couple thousand dollars and “an especially comfortable pair” of Manolo Blahniks “for pounding the NYC pavement.” Basically, a single outfit on this former ballerina, current Vogue employee, and spouse of a Rockefeller family member likely costs more than all of our daily outfits combined. And she is a Vogue assistant. Meaning that she probably makes less than $30,000 a year, spends hours a week dodging death stares from her boss and has little-to-no input on the contents of the actual magazine. What do more senior editors wear around the office? Is a gold pencil skirt and diamond-encrusted top too dressy for the daytime?
