Queen Helene’s Mint Julep Face Masque is a cult classic among beauty experts. People swear by its detoxifying prowess and it’s known to tighten and shrink the oiliest of pores. So, last time I was browsing the drugstore aisles I picked up a tube of the exfoliant version, Mint Julep Natural Facial Scrub, to see if it measured up. I was pretty pleased with my purchase: After all, at just under $4 it was more than affordable, and I was relieved to see that the company abstains from animal testing. And hell, I couldn’t wait to experience the “pleasant, tingling mint glow!” the label promised.
After a few weeks of testing, here’s the verdict…Cult classic, it ain’t. There was no tingling or afterglow, and, more alarmingly, I started breaking out at week three. Also annoying: the twist-off cap captures water and no matter how clean and dry I try to keep it, it’s getting a bit mildewy in there. It’s disappointing because I was really hoping to find a crazy-cheap exfoliant that I could swear by, but, alas, this isn’t the case. I’ll definitely stick with the mask, but the scrub just wasn’t for me. Has anyone else tried it? Would love to hear if it actually worked for someone else.
