Remote Control: What You’ll Want to Watch The Week Of August 10th 2009
I live in a 400-square-foot apartment, yet my television is four feet wide. Hey, don’t judge me—you know you have a TV problem, too. Even though it’s gorgeous out, and you should probably be outside soaking up the vitamin D, here are the shows you’ll definitely want to catch this week. Things start off slow, but pick up thanks to Bravo and amazing new episodes of “NYC Prep” and “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” By Friday, it’ll be a full-out boob-tube orgy with the premiere of “Degrassi Goes to Hollywood,” (FINALLY!) “Mad Men,” and “My Antonio.”
The Show: “The Nine Lives of Marion Barry”
Set Your DVR For: Tonight, 9 p.m. (EST), HBO
Former Washington, D.C. Mayor Marion Barry is the original gangster of politician scandals. In 1990, he was caught on tape as he was busted in a D.C. hotel room with crack cocaine, and he served six months in prison. But he came back (take notes, Rod Blagojevich) and was re-elected in 1995. I’m dorkily pumped for this documentary.
The Show: “NYC Prep”
Set Your DVR For: Tuesday, 9 p.m. (EST), Bravo
Sniff. This week brings the season finale of “NYC Prep.” Now where are we going to go for our weekly dose of teenagers acting pretentious? In this episode, Jessie and Camille beef over the Operation Smile gala they’re working on, and PC and Taylor’s bizarro friendship comes to an end. This is why people can’t be projects, PC.
The Show: “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”
Set Your DVR For: Thursday, 10 p.m. (EST), Bravo
Please, please, please tell me that you are watching this season. I still can’t process the fight Sheree had with her party planner in the first episode. In this episode, she goes after Kim’s wig.
The Show: “Degrassi Goes To Hollywood”
Set Your DVR For: Friday, 8 p.m. (EST), The N
Don’t even pretend like you’re going to your friend’s birthday party this Friday night. You know all you want to do is watch the Degrassi movie. The gang heads for Hollywood, where Paige and Mannie continue their rivalry over a role in a “High School Musical”-type movie. Ellie tries to smooch Craig. And Marco, well, we just love him.
The Show: “Mad Men”
Set Your DVR For: Sunday, 10 p.m. (EST), AMC
Wait, did you guys know the third season of “Mad Men” premieres this Sunday? Oh, you did. Because we’ve told you 90 million times? Sorry. A little excited.
The Show: “My Antonio”
Set Your DVR For: Sunday, 10 p.m. (EST), VH1
Ahhh … the dimples. VH1’s latest celebreality dating show stars mega-hottie Antonio Sabato Jr. We learned a very important lesson from the preview—he cares most about hands and feet. It’s mani/pedi time, ladies.
