Remote Control: What You’ll Want to Watch The Week Of August 3rd 2009
This week, lots of shows are coming and going. First, we’ll say good-bye to “So You Think You Can Dance” for the season. But do not fret. In addition to the premieres of “Addicted to Beauty” and “How’d You Get So Rich,” we have new episodes of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” to look forward to. The recently separated couple return to the screen in their first new episode in five weeks. And Chris Kattan will make his first appearance on the boob tube in what seems like years in “Bollywood Hero.” It’s shaping up to be a wicked week for the square screen.
The Show: “Jon & Kate Plus 8”
Set Your DVR For: Monday, 9pm (EST), TLC
The Deal: After a five-week hiatus, the show returns with a new view on life. Kate is flaunting a positive “can do” attitude, but that doesn’t stop her from asking Jon, “What planet do you live on?” While the couch may be gone, the tension is still on and the eight children still needed tending to.
The Show: “Addicted to Beauty”
Set Your DVR For: Tuesday, 11pm (EST), Oxygen
The Deal: It looks like “Dr. 90210” meets “Sunset Tan” in this new series that documents the workings of a spa/plastic-surgery office. Besides the silly front desk antics, there’s the added bonus of surgery seekers who are probably out of their minds.
The Show: “How’d You Get So Rich”
Set Your DVR For: Wednesday, 10pm (EST), TV Land
The Deal: The series premiere of this Joan Rivers show is bound to be inspiring. In a time when it seems like the only people getting bonuses are the ones who bankrupt the country, Rivers diverts our attention to a different breed of rich person who worked hard to achieve the American Dream. Watch and learn how these upper class citizens made their millions and went from rags to riches.
The Show: “So You Think You Can Dance”
Set Your DVR For: Thursday, 8pm (EST), Fox
The Deal: This week, “So You Think You Can Dance” pulls into the final destination when Jeanine, Evan, Kayla, or Brandon will get crowned best dancer. The season five finale is bound to draw a large audience and probably some special guests. We’ll see who they get to top Katie Holmes’ performance.
The Show: “Bollywood Hero”
Set Your DVR For: Thursday, Friday & Saturday, 10pm (EST), IFC
The Deal: Chris Kattan, the funny man who has been M.I.A. for forever, makes his return in this three part mini-series. Mimicking his real life drop out of Hollywood, Kattan accepts his failure to make it as a leading man in America, so he heads to India on a quest to become a Bollywood leading man instead. The three-day event also stars SNL’s Maya Rudolf and has guest appearances from folks like Keanu Reeves.
