Album Drop: This Week’s New Albums From Starflyer 59 To Ashley Tisdale
It’s new release Tuesday, so it’s time to take the latest tunes for a spin. This week we’re visiting romantic Owl City, sexing it up with Starflyer 59, living for Band of Skulls, and enjoying Ashley Tisdale’s violent side.
Owl City, Ocean Eyes
Owl City is a lonely boy in a tiny town in Minnesota who makes electronica-pop. His second record is so sweet it gave me a toothache.
Ashley Tisdale, Guilty Pleasure
Most of this record is the kind of breathless, teeny-bop rock whine you’d expect from Disney’s Ashley. But there’s a hidden gem that proves hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. So, if you like to see a kid star go to her deep dark place, skip the girl-power single “It’s Alright, It’s OK,” and go straight for the threat of tire slashing in “Delete You.” Warning: If you like this album, it’s really gonna have to be a “Guilty Pleasure.”
Band Of Skulls, Baby Darling Dollface Honey
The name sounds scary, but the band is sweet. Their hot track “Fires,” also somewhat of a misnomer, is just a loveable song about longing for a lover, but their plucky guitar flashes and bangable beats makes it not wussy. Amazing! We heart this new British garage rock band that’s not afraid to show a softer side. Also, they have a rad female guitarist.
Starflyer 59, Ghosts Of The Past
This indie rock compilation album of awesomeness oozes almost two decades of sex and guitar. Especially in “Black Jacket,” you can just hear how close singer Jason Martin’s lips are to the mic, and it will probs make you jealous. This band has managed to keep things sounding dirty in the ’90s and their greatest hits are all hawt.
