World Of Warcraft Is Almost, Uh, Cool?
In a desperate attempt to make World of Warcraft more socially acceptable, the advertisers for this geeky game started using celebs like William Shatner, Mr. T, Ozzy Osbourne, and Vern Troyer to promote it. The weird part is that this strategy has sort of worked. Now this online video game is being turned into a live action movie. Crazily enough, someone sort of legit is actually directing it: “Spider Man” director Sam Raimi.
But WOW (I can’t believe I just used the acronym) has been mainstream for a while. “South Park” is full of jokes about the game. Oh, yeah, and the gal who plays Meg in “Family Guy” was once quizzed about her Warcraft knowledge, and she passed with flying colors. So if you want to join the ranks of Ozzy Osbourne and Mr. T, pick up those controls and play away. Me? I think I’ll just, err, watch? [New Zealand Herald]
