Alexander Wang’s runway show is one of the hardest fashion week spots to score a ticket to. The music is always great, his clothes embody bad ass chic, and the models he sends down the runway are hot and extra stomp-y. But it wasn’t always that way. When Wang first started out, he cast his early models from the glamorous halls of Craigslist, home of used bikes, thinly veiled prostitution and those Missed Connections things that my, um, friends sometimes check out when they’re bored. [Fashionologie]But while the price of that early model may have been very different from the current bevy of famous near-supers he employs, he recently said that the general look and attitude has barely changed at all: “In one of the first pictures we did, the model, who we found on Craigslist, was just wearing a sweater, slouching, and smoking a cigarette. People identified with her then, and she hasn’t changed much since.” Hmm, sounds like a candidate for the Sartorialist.
