- Earlier today, Brooke Shields talked about her friendship with Michael Jackson, saying that he always seemed asexual. “Both of us needed to be adults very early,” said Shields. “When we were together, we were two little kids having fun…MJ’s laugh was the sweetest and purest I have ever known.” [CBC] She was actually the best speaker there, telling funny anecdotes about how they tried to catch Elizabeth Taylor in her wedding dress. Once, Brooke asked Michael what the deal was with the glove and he said, “If you’re going to hold my hand, it better be the non-gloved one, because sequins really hurt.”
- Smokey Robinson read messages from Michael Jackson’s friends who couldn’t attend. Diana Ross‘ read, “Michael was a personal love of mine, a treasured part of my life, part of the fabric of my life, in a way that I can’t seem to find words to express.” Nelson Mandela sent the message, “We had great admiration for his talent and that he was able to triumph over tragedy on so many occasions in his life. We also mourn with his family and his friends over the loss of our dear friend.” [CNN] — It’s pretty shocking how Michael was buddies with approximately every person ever, huh?
- The most heartbreaking moment was probably when his daughter, Paris, got up to the mic and said, “I just wanted to say, ever since I was born, my daddy has been the best father you can imagine. I just wanted to say I love him so much.” She started crying and fell into Janet Jackson’s arms. [NYTimes] — She’s so cute! It almost made ice-hearted me cry. Plus, her hair is so shiny!
This is unrelated, but a totally nutso California family believes that Michael Jackson has come to them as a vision in a tree knot.
