Why Can’t We All Just Get Along (In The Lady Blogosphere)?
The only thing that I think I actually am naive about is that we all might be able to get along. A lot of feminists talk about the idea of “big tent feminism,” which means we welcome anyone who calls himself or herself a feminist even if we might not agree with everything that person has to say. We’re rich, we’re poor. We’re American-born or immigrants. We’re men, we’re women, we’re transgendered and we’re transsexual. Because of our different experiences, we have different opinions on some subjects, but because we fundamentally believe in a few key principles, we get along amicably.
Of course, there is no requirement that all feminists must get along with each other. Helen Gurley Brown and Gloria Steinem both called themselves feminists but were at odds with each other’s belief systems.
