Remote Control: The Shows You’ll Want To Watch The Week Of June 26th 2009
The television pickings are always a touch slim come summer. Surviving without new episodes of “Lost” and “Friday Night Lights” is hard enough, but now we can’t even look forward to new helpings of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” Ahhh! But never fear. Yes, there are a few good things on TV this week. Here’s the stuff you don’t want to miss.
The Show: “Dance Your Ass Off”
Set Your DVR For: Tonight, 10pm (EST), Oxygen
This show is a hybrid of “So You Think You Can Dance” and “The Biggest Loser.” The concept? A bunch of overweight folks participate in a dance competition to see who’s got the hottest moves and who can lose the most poundage. It could go one of two ways—(a) it could be laugh-at-the-fat-people obnoxiousness, a la audition shows for “American Idol” or (b) it could be heart-warming and motivate you to shake what your mama gave you. Let’s hope it’s the latter.
The Show: “NYC Prep”
Set Your DVR: Tuesday, 9pm (EST), Bravo
Few things are more enjoyable than watching rich teenagers who’ve, perhaps against their parents’ better judgment, decided to pimp themselves out on reality television. In this episode, Taylor goes on a date with creepizoid Sebastian. Isn’t it funny what teenagers think they’re supposed to do and say on dates? Let’s just say that Sebastian shows off his French skills, because the ladies always love that. And Taylor thinks she should dazzle Sebastian by saying she wants to be a philosopher when she grows up. Yeah, if by “philosopher” she means “personal shopper.”
The Show: Margaret Cho Beautiful
Set Your DVR For: Friday, 11pm, Showtime
We looooove Margaret Cho and are bummed we haven’t been able to check her out on tour. Luckily, Showtime is helping us out by airing her full stand-up show. Expect: debunking of all concepts surrounding beauty, from “Project Runway” to Jessica Simpson.
