Kate On “Lost” Is Proof That Men Love Crazy Bitches

Kate on “Lost” is one of the most vile female characters on TV. She’s also proof that the general consensus is that men love the chase and are most attracted to women who are a challenge, drive them crazy, and will cause so much drama that she overshadows the smart, kind, and loyal woman standing next to her.

The producers have tried to make Kate interesting, by writing her first as an independent bad girl who’s evolved into a nurturing mother figure, but ultimately, she is a cliche. She’s a tease, who tempts both the Good Guy (Jack, the doctor) and the Bad Boy (Sawyer, the con artist) with her attention grabbing antics, bouncing between both like a ping pong ball who just can’t decide who she really loves. Yawn. She’s also a pain in the ass. She screws up plans, takes matters into her own hands when she really shouldn’t, and acts high and mighty. She is easily the most annoying female character on TV since Kimmie Gibbler and she’s also “Lost”‘s biggest flaw. You can quote me on that. [Note: There are spoilers about "Lost"'s season finale, after the jump.]Other female characters, who are far more interesting, dynamic, and fun to watch, are sacrificed so Kate can continue to reign as “Lost”‘s queen bee and Token Hot Chick. When a female character threatens Kate’s title, she’s “taken care of.” Ana Lucia — who was far more of a bad ass than Kate, not to mention more complicated and potentially crucial to the show’s plot — got too close to Jack, so she was killed off. The latest casualty? The character of Juliet, who first threatened Kate’s status with Jack, and then developed a deep relationship with Sawyer. If the rumors are to be believed, she won’t be back for “Lost”‘s final season, likely not surviving last night’s cliffhanger’s bomb blast. In the last few episodes, culminating in the season finale, it was made clear that neither Jack nor Sawyer can quit Kate. The only thing standing in her way of having them both was Juliet. So, see ya later, blondie!

Kate is not popular with any Lost fans that I know, including male viewers. Her hotness does not mask how much she sucks. I bet if you did a poll about who the fans would rather see die, they’d have chosen Kate over Juliet. But are the writers penning what they think is reality? That both a Good Guy and a Bad Boy would choose a Crazy, Fickle Bitch like Kate over a sensible, smart, and loyal woman like Juliet? That in real life — and on The Island — men will always be drawn to the one they can’t quite attain, the woman who is the biggest challenge, the one who plays the most games?
