“South Park” Teaches Kanye Humility. Um, We’re Skeptical.
What, you thought Kanye West wasn’t going to say anything after “South Park” accused him of being an egomaniacal gay fish last night? Of course he struck back, with a 234-word all-caps rant on his blog. First things first, check out the clip from the episode and then click past the jump for the best of his most egotastic moments. [Kanye West] Now, back to Kanye’s response. We’re impressed that Kanye’s latest post is free of the unhinged rhetoric we’ve come to expect when he addresses his detractors. Not a single “SQUID BRAINS” or “You’re f**king trash” in sight. In fact, Kanye calls the “South Park” gag “PRETTY FUNNY” and admits that the “CRAZY EGO” he’s known for might have outlasted its usefulness.
As he says, “I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I’M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE BUT I’M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE. I’M SURE THE WRITERS AT SOUTH PARK ARE REALLY NICE PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE.”
Aww, Kanye. He’s ridiculously self-centered to the point of endearment. Our top four Kanye Egotastic Moments.
- Man In The Mirror. In an interview this year, Kanye confided that his, “greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live.” [iCelebz] — Funny, my greatest pain is that I’ll never be able to make out with myself. But I’ll keep trying anyway.
- Dead Man Walking. At the 2004 American Music Awards, Kanye started walking out to accept the Best New Artist award, only…he didn’t win it. The reward went to Gretchen Wilson. Kanye stormed out in protest and promised to never return to the AMAs. [MTV] — To be fair, who the hell is Gretchen Wilson? And what are the AMAs?
- We’re Not Your Friends. At the 2006 Europe Music Awards, Kanye lost out to Justice and Simian’s jam, “We Are Your Friends,” so Kanye hopped on stage to interrupt their acceptance speech, explaining that “Touch the Sky” should have won because it, “cost a million dollars and Pamela Anderson was in it.” Backstage he added, “I did it to be the king of all videos.” [MTV] — I guess there really is no justice. I mean, if a mil and Pam Anderson can’t save you, why bother?
- Fashion Trashin’. Kanye and Marc Jacobs collabed on some shoes that are essentially red paint dipped Air Jordans with a Louis Vuitton label on them. In a video introducing the shoes, Kanye feigns disappointment when he announces, “I was forced to change my name to Martin Louis the King…Jr. Address me as such.” [AllieisWired]
