Who IS Kandi Burruss, Anyway?
Kandi Burruss will replace boring DeShawn Snow on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” for season two. Bravo producers fired DeYawn because she’s “too human for a circus show” and that “because the show did so well, they are about to pump up the drama and they didn’t think that I would fit in,” she told Essence.com. Holding her own against NeNe and Sheree seems like a tall order for Kandi to fill, but we think this born and raised Atlanta native knows the ins and outs of Atlanta’s social elite and will definitely give these women some competition. And as a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, maybe she can help Kim Zolciak with that ill-fated singing career. LOVES: Kandi is not one for having her business in the street, which makes her appearance on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” even more interesting. The only guy she’s been linked to is former boyfriend Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs, who produced the TLC hit, “No Scrubs.” Kandi is a single mother to a six-year-old daughter named Riley.
CAREER: Kandi burst onto the music scene in 1990 as a member of the R&B group Xscape, whose chart-topping singles were “Understanding” and “Who Can I Run To?” After the group disbanded in the late ’90s, Kandi had a somewhat successful solo career, but is best known as a songwriter. She wrote “No Scrubs” for TLC and has written for Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, and several other artists. She’s the first woman to win the Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year Award from ASCAP. Kandi said she has made more money as a songwriter than she ever did as a member of Xscape.
CREW: Kandi remains best friends with former Xscape member, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle who is also rapper T.I.’s wife. She’s also friends with rapper Rasheeda a.k.a. Georgia Peach, and the two are working on a R&B/Hip-Hop collaboration called Peach Candy.
