How To: Dita Von Teese Lights Up Your Love Life

Most of us don’t have Dita Von Teese’s curvy pinup body, but the queen of burlesque, and the queen of lingerie, wants everyone to look good in the bedroom, including you. Von Teese shared with The Telegraph a few of her secrets for looking hot while you’re on your way to getting naked in the bedroom. The key? It’s all in the lighting, ladies.

  • Keep It Low: In bed, overhead lighting is a no-no. After all, no one wants to get busy with a huge fluorescent light shining down upon their naked body — it’s neither romantic nor flattering. Dita says to use mid-level lighting, and this West Elm lamp reminds us of those tasseled pasties burlesque performers covet.
  • Do It Soft: When doing the horizontal, keep company with light bulbs 65 watts or lower. And if you want to look really good, replace your normal bulbs with pink ones. Your room won’t be rose-colored, but it will be romantic.
  • Make It Adjustable: Dita has dimmers on all the lights in her house, but if you don’t want to deal with all that electrical mumbo-jumbo, candles are the ultimate in subdued lighting. These all-wax candles with built-in candlesticks will help you set the scene for seduction without seeming like you’re doing it in the lair in “The Phantom of the Opera.”
