- Kings of Leon Only By Night
The Southern boys head south, if you know what we mean, for their fourth record. Tracks like “Sex on Fire” and “Crawl” have the band of brothers that made it big as teens talking dirty. Seems like since their “California Waiting” days, their addictions have moved from booze and drugs to women. With the seductively slick guitar work and a beat that feels like heavy breathing, the Kings of Leon have given us another record to scream about.
- Jenny Lewis Acid Tongue
Girl crush alert! Jenny Lewis, the lovable lady half of Rilo Kiley, has released her second solo record. It’s a little bit country, it’s a little bit indie rock n’ roll, but mostly it’s a nod to Vietnam-era folk. The title track is about drugging, boozing, and lying, but like the Joni Mitchell of our generation, if there’s anything Jenny is doing, it’s telling her truth.
- TV on the Radio Dear Science
The mad musical geniuses of TV on the Radio have made yet another awesome album of sonic concoctions with Dear Science. Upbeat, refreshing, with built in clap track, this record incorporates their signature kaleidoscope of sound that will suck you into their uniquely orchestrated universe. If only the real world they write about was as harmonious as their songs.
- Cold War Kids Loyalty to Loyalty
The Cold War Kids have a bleaker outlook than the decades of fear they take their name from. Yet, somehow, they manage to make exciting tracks about their debbie downer outlook. Hey, at least they’re beautifully whining is a rallying call about the right things- the government, privacy, and our rights.
- Lenka Lenka
Lil’ Lenka’s got some softly strummed strings and a breathlessly sweet voice. Her debut record features a Modest Mouse cover and light tracks of her own womanly whimsy.
- “This American Life: Season 1″
Daily Hotness alum Ira Glass hit the road in search of stories with more than just his usual NPR tape recorder. For the first time, he brought some cameras for the ride. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll fall in love with this land of ours and the host with most insight and sex appeal.
- “Sex In the City: The Movie”
The rom-com of the summer is here to cuddle up at home with you, just in time for fall. Rumors are already swirling that there will be an even sexier city girl sequel.
George Clooney and John Krasinski in uniforms rolling around and getting dirty, need we say more?
- Cashmere Mafia: The Complete Series
Lucy Liu stars in this short-lived Sex in the City wannabe show.
