A study of more than 36,000 people from around the world found that musical tastes and personality type are closely related. Professor Adrian North of Henriot-Watt University found that classical music fans were shy, while heavy metal lovers were gentle and at ease with themselves (the first finding makes sense, the second is puzzling). “The general public has held a stereotype of heavy metal fans being suicidally depressed and of being a danger to themselves and society in general. But they are quite delicate things,” North said. So, maybe it’s the pop music lovers who are the scary ones — the study found that they are “not creative” and “not at ease” but have “high self-esteem.” Personally, I’m a little hurt that indie music lovers are said to be “not hard working.” [BBC]
