Sweet Release: What’s In And Out The Week Of August 5th 2008

  • Carla Bruni Comme Si de Rien N’Etait
Former model and current outspoken first lady of France Carla Bruni has released a record so sweet and simply sexy that you know she’s exactly the kind of classy slut she says she is. While you might not be able to pronounce the album title, you should definitely play Comme Si de Rien N’Etait at your next dinner party. (NOTE: The title means “as if nothing happened.” Translation courtesy of Megs, who got straight A’s in French class.)
  • Conor Oberst Conor Oberst
For his third solo album, Bright Eyes’ frontman Conor Oberst has created yet another poetic, thoughtful record. While he may have sensitive lyrics, he’s hardly an emo wuss. The indie rocker is truly indie, refusing to give into big business venues and labels. Like the Bob Dylan of our generation, Conor is a rare, prolific, and political talent who refuses to give in or give up. Oh, but he always puts out.
  • Lewis Black Anticipation
A regular barker you’d recognize from Comedy Central stints like “Back In Black” on The Daily Show, Lewis Black just released the follow up to his Grammy-award winning Carnegie Hall album, Anticipation. In this CD, the kvetching funnyman talks about everything from loosing his virginity to his favorite holiday — Chanukah.
  • The Faint Fasciinatiion
Full of weird zaps, slaps, and sound effects, The Faint’s Fasciinatiion sounds like it was made by a group of beat-boxing robots. In actuality, they’re five of the cutest boys from Nebraska who have turned each other into machines for fun.
  • Brazilian Girls NYC
Known for their huge hit “Pussy,” the third Brazilian Girls’ record shows their still full of fun grooves. Although their lyrics seem to have been cleaned up (unlike the title track), the single “Good Time” is sure to show you just that.
