So, The National Enquirer is claiming that John Edwards has a mistress and a love child and that he was totally caught visiting with them at a hotel recently. All this while his wife Elizabeth is still dealing with cancer. Now, this is the National Enquirer we’re talking about, so this is hardly FACT, but politicians stepping out on their wives is hardly an original rumor. Besides, despite the fact that my Grandma calls it “the trash”, they have been right on more than one occasion. Our lovely intern Annika revisits the Enquirer‘s moments of “A-ha! We told you so!”
- In late February 2008, the tab reported that Patrick Swayze was diagnosed by pancreatic cancer. His publicist confirmed the report then released a statement from his doctor on March 5. This story about Swayze only having five weeks to live was obviously false, but the Enquirer was right about his diagnosis.
- The tabloid reported that Wynonna Judd’s husband, Daniel Roach, was arrested on March 22, 2007 for sexually abusing a minor. In this exclusive, the Enquirer theorized that this would end her marriage. Police confirmed the arrest and Judd filed for divorce a week later.
- The Enquirer did a story revealing Dog The Bounty Hunter’s racist rants during a phone conversation on October 31, 2007. At the end of the story, A&E responds to the matter and there’s a link to hear the conversations. Dog also released a statement later that day.
- The Enquirer broke the story that Hulk Hogan’s mistress was his daughter’s friend Christiane Plante on February 28, 2008. Perez Hilton has statements from both Plante and Brooke Hogan on March 8 and 10, respectively.
