The Gap Is Bringing Romance Back

I’m the type of shopper who walks into a Gap and sees through the basic necessities to the wonderful fashion possibilities. In fact the last time The Gap had an item that I HAD to have was last year. I’m sure you remember the ruffle-front shirt dress that was all over ads last summer. Well, now, I can say that I’m totally head-over-heels for the Romantic Collection that was recently unveiled in stores and online. As the name of the collection suggests, pink is the dominant color, but it’s tempered with beige, soft brown, and beetroot (wait a minute, that doesn’t sound romantic at all, but beetroot is actually a very pretty maroon). The styles are sweet, but not sugary. I imagine wearing that dotted sash dress (1) or any of the darling camis (4) while dining outdoors with the sun on my shoulders. But most of the pieces translate to the office also because they’re equally sweet and polished. The pieced half-snap jacket is the kind of item you will have forever, and people, especially snotty department store workers, will always be surprised it’s from Gap. Not only are the clothes amazing, but also the accessories, which have a romantic, utilitarian feel. Only the Gap could make a canvas fold-over clutch chic (3). And since I’ve been writing this post, I can’t stop thinking about the herringbone satchel (2), which I just have to have. So I have to say, “Welcome back Gap, and thank you Patrick Robinson for reinventing my old friend.”
