Yesterday, on a remote island, Greece’s first same-sex wedding took place. There were actually two: one between two men, and another between two women. The civil ceremonies were performed on the tiny island Tilos. “I know they’re people too, but couldn’t they have gone on doing what they were doing without getting our community involved?” one of the island’s residents said. While there are people, including Greece’s top prosecutor, who say any same-sex marriages will be nullified and considered illegal, Greek gay rights groups found a loophole in a 1982 law that seems to allow same-sex marriages.
