Back in prehistoric times, women were scarce, so men used to fight their rivals and capture the ladies. Researchers studied 34 skeletons found in a mass grave in southwest Germany, and among all of the skeletons in the grave, none of them were local women. How can they tell where people are from if they can’t hear their accents or see their clothes, and only have bones to go on, you may ask? They study skeletons’ teeth and analyze the strontium, carbon, and oxygen isotopes, which can suggest geological origin and diet. According to the scientists, this is the first evidence suggesting men fought over mates in prehistoric times. [EurekAlert!]
