Did you know that the word “cuckold,” meaning the husband of an adulteress, is derived from “cuckoo,” a type of bird that commonly flies out of clocks? Cuckoos lay eggs in the nests of other birds, and the other birds are left to hatch and raise them (though they don’t have a clue because the cuckoo eggs look just like their eggs). [The Economist]
