Remember your class pet from grade school? You always liked that stinky little communal fuzz ball, but then when it was your turn to look after it over the weekend, that’s when it truly wormed its way into your heart. Something about taking care of something or someone makes you love it. It’s the same principle that makes parents love their children or you love that boyfriend who needs you. When you invest time, energy, and concern, you are wrapping up your heart with a bow and giving it to them. With that equation of giving equals loving in mind, you can make your man your bitch and live like a princess too — just like all those demanding girls who score the hot nice guys!
As an independent modern woman, the thought of being “taken care of” may make you barf, but the exhausting trials of getting a man to love you warrants the easy use of a little Psych 101. Especially since it should save us working girls precious time — just think about this as the microwave for your relationships. According to Alex Shalman of Dumb Little Man, it only takes these three paraphrased principles to wrap a man around your finger.

  • Accept Help — When he offers it, take it! Why not?! Even if you can do it, why not let him if he wants to. All he wants is a “Thank You.” So give it to him!
  • Don’t Be Afraid To Ask — You might think making him go out of his way for you will cause resentment, but you’re wrong. The more he sacrifices for you, the more he invests in you. And the more he invests, the more he cares.
  • Do It Together — Spend quality time doing things you both like to do. This will reaffirm what you have in common and you will both be investing in each other at the same time.
